GE14 | Based on sentiments on the ground, former finance minister Daim Zainuddin believes that Pakatan Harapan would capture federal power in tomorrow's general election.

However, the prediction came with a warning that BN would leave no stone unturned to retain its hold on Putrajaya.

"Wherever I go, people ask me who will win GE14. I tell them Harapan will win, God willing.

"There is a mood for change, the rakyat want change, but (we) have to be careful, because the (caretaker) government will do anything to win," he told a press conference in Langkawi today.

Last week, Daim predicted BN might suffer a massive defeat in Kedah and Perak whereas PAS would be ousted from its traditional stronghold of Kelantan.

For the record, the former was spot on in his prediction that BN would recapture Kedah in the previous election.

BN had fielded Mukhriz Mahathir as the menteri besar candidate then and the strategy proved successful.

This time around, Mukhriz is once again working on capturing the state for Harapan while his father and Daim's former boss, Dr Mahathir Mohamad, has set his sights on the administrative capital.

Meanwhile, Daim said before he hit the campaign trail for Harapan, he had advised caretaker prime minister Najib Abdul Razak on managing the nation.

"Najib and I are old friends. There are certain ways to advice, but I cannot reveal all," he added, declining to elaborate.

The former minister also said he does not have to join the Mahathir-led Bersatu in order to fight for the nation's future.

"I'm not joining Bersatu, I came back to fight for the rakyat and ensure there is no corruption.

"I will continue to be with the rakyat, even after the election is over," he added.

Daim, 80, said his age is not an obstacle for him to contribute to the betterment of Malaysia.

"What matters is I have a brain. Better to have an old horse with a brain than a brainless young horse," he added.

The former minister also urged Malaysians to cast their ballots with the future of the nation in mind.

"We are talking about the country's future and generations to come.

"If you still have time to tell your family, especially the 40 percent young voters, tell them to make the most of their votes to save the country and to ensure a better future.

"The coming generation will blame us if we let this opportunity slip, while we can," he said.
