Selangor ruler Sultan Sharafuddin Idris Shah will issue an official statement pertaining to the status of Menteri Besar Mohamed Azmin Ali tomorrow.

Azmin confirmed the matter after having an audience with the sultan and discussing his status as menteri besar for about two hours at the Istana Bukit Kayangan in Shah Alam today.

This followed the announcement of his appointment as economic affairs minister in the administration of Prime Minister Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad last Friday.

“I had an audience with the sultan today and informed His Majesty about the latest development.

“The meeting ended on a positive note and His Majesty will issue an official statement on my status as the menteri besar at 9am tomorrow,” he told reporters after coming out from the palace at 1.50pm.

Last Friday, Dr Mahathir announced the list of 15 Cabinet minister in his administration, including Azmin as economic affairs minister.

The swearing-in ceremony for all the cabinet ministers is scheduled to be held at the Istana Negara tomorrow.

Azmin, who is Bukit Antarabangsa assemblyperson and Gombak MP, was appointed as Selangor menteri besar after Pakatan Harapan managed to retain power in the state in the 14th general election on May 9.

Two assemblypersons speculated to take his place are Amiruddin Shari (PKR-Sungai Tua) and Dr Shaharuddin Badaruddin (PKR-Seri Setia).
