Pakatan Harapan cabinet members, deputy ministers and parliamentarians will declare their assets, said Deputy Prime Minister Dr Wan Azizah Wan Ismail today.

"I think so. Yes. It is part of our management of doing things," she told a press conference on her first day at the Women and Family Development Ministry, which she helms as her second portfolio.

When asked how soon will leaders and politicians declare their assets, she said: "(Please ask) the finance minister."

Asset declaration was not among the promises made in Harapan's manifesto, which was unveiled on March 8.

A week later, DAP announced that its lawmakers would declare their assets when appointed as public officials after forming the federal government.

Harapan only pledged in its manifesto to ensure political funding would be transparent and free from corrupt practices by implementing a new law, the Political Financing Control Act. 

The Act will bar political parties from owning assets in excess of RM1billion, while government-owned companies are not allowed to make political contributions. 

The political contribution must come from sources that can be identified. 

Meanwhile, Wan Azizah also announced a special taskforce to be set up in the ministry to address the malnutrition faced by children living in low-cost housing or People's Housing Projects (PPRs) in Kuala Lumpur, as well as childhood obesity problems. 

In February, a Unicef report indicated that 99.7 percent of children in low-cost flats in Kuala Lumpur live in relative poverty and seven percent in absolute poverty.

Wan Azizah said another taskforce will be formed to study ways of implementing Harapan's manifesto promises.
