Following a police raid on former Prime Minister Najib Abdul Razak’s alleged “safe house” yesterday, his former staff has confirmed previously living there but denied any links to the raid.

Speaking to the Malay Mail, Najib’s former principal private secretary Shukry Mohd Salleh said he had lived in the Putrajaya Precinct 10 house for seven years from 2009 up until retiring two years ago.

“I lived there until I was a government servant and as per procedure I returned the keys and have nothing to do with the property then on,” he told the daily.

Yesterday, an investigator told Malaysiakini that police teams from the Bukit Aman Commercial Crimes Investigation Department had seized designer items linked to troubled state investment fund 1MDB from the house.

"Dozens of branded items were taken from the house at Precinct 10, which investigators believe were bought using money from 1MDB," the source had said.

The raid was conducted under the Anti-Money Laundering, Anti-Terrorism Financing and Proceeds of Unlawful Activities Act 2001.

The house, which bore the insignia of the Property and Land Management Division of the Prime Minister's Department, is located approximately 200m from Seri Perdana, the official residence of the prime minister.

Aside from the Precinct 10 property, another of Najib’s purported “safe houses” located in Putrajaya Precinct 11 was also raided yesterday. Nothing was seized from the latter.

These raids come after some RM114 million in cash, 284 designer handbags, luxury watches and jewellery were found after police raided on two luxury condominium units linked to Najib.

The Pekan MP’s private residence in Langgak Duta, Bukit Tunku in KL was also previously subject to a marathon raid.

All raids were conducted in connection with ongoing police investigations into 1MDB, which the Pakatan Harapan government had vowed to thoroughly probe.
