In politics, there will always be certain quarters who attempt to drive a wedge between leaders, according to Bersatu Youth Syed Saddiq Syed Abdul Rahman.

However, he is convinced the bond between Prime Minister Dr Mahathir Mohamad and his heir-apparent for the second time in two decades, Anwar Ibrahim, would be able to withstand such attempts.

Syed Saddiq was commenting on the allegation that Mahathir and his trusted advisor Daim Zainuddin are colluding with PKR deputy president Azmin Ali to prevent Anwar from becoming prime minister.

The allegation came from PKR MP Abdullah Sani Abdul Hamid, who is aligned to former Pandan lawmaker Rafizi Ramli. The latter is challenging Azmin for the number two post in the coming party polls.

“To me, these are just personal views,” said Syed Saddiq.

“Insya-Allah (God willing), their (Mahathir and Anwar) relationship will remain strong,” added the Muar MP during a press conference in Kuala Lumpur this afternoon.

The Bersatu Youth leader said this as he met with Anwar last week and discovered that the latter's ties with Mahathir are strong.

“In fact, he told me that the understanding (between the two of them) must be emphasised. After our meeting, the two of us went to Putrajaya to meet Mahathir,” he added.
