Five-day remand for Felcra subsidiary officers arrested by MACC

The two officials of a Felcra Berhad subsidiary arrested by the MACC yesterday over the alleged misappropriation of government funds have been remanded for five days by the Putrajaya Magistrate's Court.

Bernama reports that magistrate Shah Wira Abdul Halim issued the remand order against the two suspects following an application by the MACC.

The commission had arrested the two men following raids on 10 locations yesterday, including the Felcra subsidiary, in relation to alleged abuse of power in the distribution of training programme contracts worth RM4 million and the misappropriation of funds.

An MACC source had said the first suspect, a 53-year-old senior manager, was arrested at the commission's headquarters in Putrajaya at 6.20pm, while the second suspect, aged 45, was arrested at its state headquarters in Kelantan.

Both suspects had presented themselves at the MACC offices for questioning when they were arrested.

Another 15 individuals have also been summoned by the graft-buster to facilitate investigations.

Concurrent raids were carried out at 10 locations on the East Coast of the peninsula, in the Klang Valley and in Perak. Several documents were seized during the raids.

The source said the 53-year-old suspect was believed to have appointed external companies owned by his own family members to supply trainers and experts for the training programmes. He is also believed to have manipulated the quotation of prices.

According to the source, this practice began in 2014 and continued until today, raking up projects that amounted to around RM4 million.

When contacted earlier today, MACC deputy commissioner of operations Azam Baki confirmed the arrests.

"Both suspects will be brought to the Putrajaya magistrates court this morning for remand. The case is being investigated under Section 23 of the MACC Act," he said.

Section 23 concerns the use of office or position for gratification.
