DAP to have code of ethics for elected reps

DAP is in the midst of drafting a code of ethics for all its elected representatives in carrying out their duties as public officers as well as state assemblypersons.

Its vice-chairperson, Chow Kon Yeow, said the code of ethics would serve as a guideline for them, especially in terms of communications and ethics as government representatives.

He said the task to draft the code was entrusted to him and to other DAP representatives.

“Whether (a person is) holding a government post or just an elected representative, there are things that they can and cannot do. Using government resources for party activities, for example, is something that should be stopped,” he told the press after officiating the state-level National Sports Day 2018 at the Youth and Sports Complex, Batu Uban here today.

Chow said this in response to the incident involving DAP representative Norhizam Hassan Baktee, whose harsh argument with the residents over the road closure of Jalan Pulau Nibong-Taman Akasia in Batu Berendam, Malacca, was caught on camera and went viral on social media recently.

However, Norhizam, who is also Malacca Agriculture, Entrepreneur Development and Agro-based Industry chairperson, and Malacca Chief Minister Adly Zahari on behalf of the state government had, on Wednesday, apologised for the incident.
