Pakistan Prime Minister Imran Khan expressed his desire to visit Malaysia in a telephone conversation with Dr Mahathir Mohamad today.

In a statement today, the Prime Minister's Office said Mahathir had replied that he would be happy to receive the new Pakistani premier.

"In their conversation, they exchanged views on issues of combating corruption," said the PMO.

Khan had telephoned Mahathir at 1.45pm today.

The Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf party, which Khan leads, swept into power in July.

It is a widely known fact that Imran has long been an admirer of Mahathir.

On May 10, Imran congratulated Mahathir and Malaysia for ousting Najib Abdul Razak from power.

“The corruption of Najib was the major reason Mahathir came out of a 15-year retirement to win the election despite attempts by Najib government to manipulate the same," he tweeted.

Mahathir returned the gesture, writing the former cricketer a letter after his victory.

"I look forward to working closely with you in the spirit of genuine solidarity and for the unity of the ummah,” the prime minister had said.
