Former prime minister Najib Abdul Razak can help the country pay its debts by revealing how to bring out the money he is allegedly hiding, Prime Minister Dr Mahathir Mohamad said today.

In a sarcastic response to Najib's video message on Facebook last night, Mahathir told reporters that this was what the former Umno president should be doing, instead of trying to divert attention from his problems.

"I want to join him in borrowing a few trillion dollars, and then manage to pay all the trillion dollars.

"If he can tell how, for example like bringing out money that he is hiding, then we can pay our debts.

"That should be his feat, instead of trying to divert attention from his own problems," Mahathir said at a press conference after launching the National Policy on Industry 4.0 at Miti Tower in Kuala Lumpur.

In the video message, Najib told the Pakatan Harapan government to stop finding fault with him and the previous administration, and instead focus on saving the country's economy.

Najib also said that the government had no clear direction for the economy, despite having been in power for 200 days.
