Nurul Izzah quits all PKR positions

Permatang Pauh MP Nurul Izzah Anwar dropped a bombshell when she announced her resignation as PKR vice-president and from other party posts as well as her government-related positions.

PKR deputy president Mohamed Azmin Ali said he was not informed of her resignation and would seek clarification.

Earlier, PKR leader Latheefa Koya had slammed PKR president Anwar Ibrahim's appointment of the party state chiefs including Nurul Izzah as the Penang PKR chief.

Pasir Gudang MP Hassan Karim also rejected his appointment as Johor PKR chief, stating that while he believed he received majority support, the process was not transparent.

Zahid warns of Umno's collapse

Umno president Ahmad Zahid Hamidi warned that the party may collapse if there were continuous splits.

Former Pahang Menteri Besar Adnan Yaakob said many will follow him if he were to quit Umno but told Zahid not to panic as he did not intend to do so.

Pahang Menteri Besar Wan Rosdy Wan Ismail said he is confident that Umno state assemblypersons will not defect.

Bersatu announced that its deputy president Mukhriz Mahathir will lead a vetting committee in cooperation with the MACC and police to screen ex-Umno leaders wanting to join Bersatu

Deputy Prime Minister Dr Wan Azizah Wan Ismail said PKR will not accept any former Umno leaders.

Fireman attacked in riots dies

Fire and Rescue Department personnel Muhammad Adib Mohd Kassim, who was attacked by rioters last month, passed away.

Wan Azizah promised that those responsible for Adib's death would be brought to justice.

Attorney-general Tommy Thomas announced that charges have been filed against Goldman Sachs and businessperson Low Taek Jho for the alleged multi-billion ringgit theft of 1MDB funds.

Jho Low insisted that he will not stand trial in Malaysia, claiming that he would not be treated fairly.

Former prime minister Najib Abdul Razak admitted that he felt under pressure with the mounting of criminal charges against him over 1MDB, claiming that he had to borrow money to post bail.

Wan Azizah said Malaysia lost RM47 billion to corruption in gross domestic product value last year.
