A viralled video of maggots infesting a rubbish bin which purportedly took place at KLIA2 has become a matter of police investigation after a report was lodged by the Malaysia Airports Holdings Berhad (MAHB).
AirAsia head of communications Mohd Aziz Laikar Ali told Malaysiakini that police had summoned him to record his statement.
"This morning at about 8.30am I received a phone call from a police officer. He told me that MAHB lodged a police report against me over my recent tweet.
"The officer mentioned my tweet allegedly aimed to tarnish MAHB’s image and reputation.
"He asked if I can go to the station to give my statement. I apologised as I am currently away, and will be able to do so on Wednesday," Aziz said.
He added that he will be accompanied by lawyers representing AirAsia to the KLIA2 police station.
Aziz said the top management had expressed solidarity with him.
Meanwhile, MAHB, in a reply to Malaysiakini, said that the report was not against Aziz.
"We did not make a report against Aziz Laikar. We made a report on the case of the maggots that was found at the trash bin because we found the situation to be peculiar. He (Aziz) was just the person who had brought the matter up."
AirAsia Group Bhd CEO Tony Fernandes (photo), in his tweet today, lashed out at MAHB for filing the report, citing it as "bullying and threats".
"Police report!!! For saying that hygiene not kept. MAHB will never change. Bullying and threats. What we had to deal with for so many years."
Aziz, in his tweet two days ago, posted a video of the scene, with a caption: "@MY_Airports today issued a fancy statement saying KLIA & #klia2 had exceeded the service quality targets of #Mavcom’s Quality of Service (QoS) framework."
MAHB via its Twitter handle @MY_Airports on the same day had refuted the video.
"There were no maggots found in the plastic bag inside the bin, neither was there any foul smell in the bin. Due to the peculiarity of the situation, a police report has been made for further investigation on the matter," it read.
KLIA police headquarters chief Zulkifli Adamshah confirmed that police will record Aziz's statement over the report.
"They only reported on that issue which went viral. It's not against Aziz. But of course, police will take his statement (due to his tweet)," he said.
