Cops set to complete probe into Special Branch officer's death
The investigation paper on the death of a Special Branch officer – believed to have fallen from a hotel building in Pulau Tikus on Dec 17 – is almost ready, according to Penang police chief A Thaiveegan.
Thaiveegansaid police were only waiting for the report from the Chemistry and Forensic Department to complete the investigation paper on the incident which led to the death of corporal Sofian Shahari, 47.
“I believe we can complete it soon because we have made it our priority. So far, we have recorded statements from 15 people, including five police officers who were at the scene of the incident.
“We may call in a few more witnesses, who are civilians, to have their statements recorded,” he told reporters after attending the launching of Malaysia’s first facial recognition technology via CCTV at Komtar today.
In the incident, which occurred at about 4.45am, the victim’s body was found by a hotel worker in a car park in front of the hotel.
The victim, who had been with the police for more than 19 years, was believed to have gone to a karaoke centre to celebrate the birthday of a colleague from the Penang police headquarters.
