No need to question Sultan Muhammad V's decision - Mohd Amar

Kelantan deputy Menteri Bear Mohd Amar Nik Abdullah today called for all quarters to not question Sultan Muhammad V's resignation as the Yang di-Pertuan Agong.

Speaking to the media in Kota Bharu, he said it was the Kelantan ruler's right to make the decision.

"It is His Majesty's right to resign (from the throne). No need to question (his decision).

"When we do not know something, do not make speculations. What is the benefit for us (to speculate)? 

"So it is better to just keep quiet and not waste time (making speculations)," he said when met at a ceremony to hand over letters of authority to local council members today.

The PAS vice-president was commenting on Sultan Muhammad V's decision to resign as the country's 15th Yang di-Pertuan Agong as announced by the Comptroller of the Royal Household yesterday.

He added that the state government did not have any official information pertaining to the Kelantan ruler's alleged recent marriage.

"Because no one knows, and His Majesty also did not talk about it. It is not good to make speculation on what we do not know.

"There is no point in trying to find out, just accept it (if it is true). It is not wrong (for the ruler) to marry.

"To appoint the raja perempuan is (also) the sultan's right, but it has to follow the existing rules. It is not wrong to marry," he said.

Amar added that Sultan Muhammad V's resignation came as a shock to him.

"Of course I was shocked, because we did not hear about it before this. It happened all of a sudden.

"Even last Friday, when His Majesty came (to Kelantan) for prayers, there was no indication (of him resigning)."
