Tanah Merah MP Ikmal Hisham Abdul Aziz has denied that he is among the six MPs who will be rejoining Umno.

Ikmal said the speculations about this are not true and his return to Umno does not arise.

"For now, I am an independent MP and have not decided on which party to join.

"People have assumed that I will be joining Pakatan Harapan but who knows, I may end up in PAS or start a new party," he was quoted as saying by Berita Harian today.

Ikmal was among six MPs from Peninsular Malaysia who resigned from Umno in December last year.

The others are Larut MP Hamzah Zainuddin, Hulu Terengganu MP Rosol Wahid, Mersing MP Abdul Latiff Ahmad, Tasik Gelugor MP Shahbudin Yahaya and Sabah Bernam MP Mohamad Fasiah Mohd Fake.

Hamzah, who acted as their spokesperson, had attacked Umno president Ahmad Zahid Hamidi's leadership and warned that more MPs would quit if he did not step down.

They had accused Zahid of failing to provide direction to Umno.

Zahid has since gone on leave and passed his duties to Umno deputy president Mohamad Hassan.

Zahid said his decision was to stem any further exodus from Umno.
