The Penang Island City Council (MBPP) will reveal the findings on its investigation into complaints against a developer for featuring lights of a large cross on an apartment building in Jelutong, Penang.
"The mayor will make an announcement after the Chinese New Year holidays," Chief Minister Chow Kon Yeow said today.
Chow announced this at a press conference in Komtar, after he was asked about the matter.
Asked why the matter could not be revealed now, MBPP mayor Yew Tung Seang, who was present at the press conference, declined to respond.
At the height of the controversy last month, the state executive council directed the developer to launch an investigation into the matter.
According to an MBPP spokesperson, the developer was told to resolve the matter before the building was completed.
It is learnt that the building was only 80 percent completed when the controversy occurred.
Images of the apartment building in Jelutong, with a cross-shaped light display, caused waves in social media, prompting PAS information chief Nasrudin Hasan to accuse the developer of having a "Christianisation agenda".
This led to de facto Islamic Affairs Minister Mujahid Yusof Rawa calling for a stop to sensationalising the cross issue in Penang.
While the developer has denied any Christianisation agenda, subsequent photographs of the apartment that went viral showed that the lighting display now mimics the Chinese word "Ong", meaning prosperity.
Non-Muslims have no issue with loud prayers from the mosques. So why would Muslims have issues with a lights from a building that look like a cross? Respect and tolerance should apply to all parties.
