Waytha told off for being like MIC after saying Harapan can't help Indians

P Waythamoorthy has been criticised over a Tamil audio clip making the rounds on social media, allegedly of the de facto national unity minister saying that Pakatan Harapan cannot help Indian Malaysians.

"There is currently no Indian representative in the current government. We have Indian leaders from two parties. 

"But they can only speak up according to the visions of their own parties, not for the interest of Indians," he said in the clip.

The one-minute clip is believed to have been recorded during a meeting between Waythamoorthy and members of the Tamil press last week.

According to Malacca PKR communications director G Rajandran, the minister should not bring the culture of MIC into Harapan.

"In the past, MIC said they were the only party that could help Indians. But we know that the party didn't do anything for the Indians until they were rejected in the 2008 general election.

"Now we see that Waythamoorthy is trying to bring that culture into Harapan in his effort to establish a new party. 

"I urge him not to bring this culture of divide and rule into the coalition," Rajandran (photo) told Malaysiakini.

Waythamoorthy is in the midst of setting up the Malaysia Advancement Party, which he said would represent Indian interests.

As Rajandran said, however, establishing a new party would not solve the issues affecting the community.

"I admit there is unhappiness among Indians towards Harapan. But setting up a new party isn't the solution.

"If he is not happy with the current administration, we encourage him to speak up," he said.

Malaysiakini is attempting to obtain a response from Waythamoorthy, who is currently overseas.
