It is impossible for PAS not to support BN in the Semenyih by-election, said the Islamist party's vice-president Iskandar Ab Samad.
"I don't know what happened in the meeting between the president (Abdul Hadi Awang) and (Prime Minister) Dr Mahathir Mohamad, but the order given was for PAS to support BN's candidate.
"We have formed an election committee at the polling district level. It is impossible that we don't support BN," Iskandar told Malaysiakini.
Earlier today, Mahathir said PAS' decision not to support Umno was communicated to him by its president Abdul Hadi Awang during their meeting yesterday.
However, Umno has refuted this, with de facto deputy president Ismail Sabri Yaakob pointing out that many PAS leaders were present with BN at the nomination centre today.
These included PAS secretary-general Takiyuddin Hassan, Iskandar and fellow vice-president Idris Ahmad, as well as Selangor PAS chief Sallehen Mukhyi.
