SEMENYIH POLLS | Bersatu president Muhyiddin Yassin has taken note that several division leaders in Perak are calling for Menteri Besar Ahmad Faizal Azumu to be replaced.
However, he placed the issue firmly on the backburner, saying it would be dealt with after the March 2 Semenyih by-election.
"I have advised them the matter will be resolved after the by-election," he told a press conference after campaigned for Bersatu candidate Muhamaad Aiman Zainali at Beranang, Semenyih.
"When we finish the by-election, we will handle the issue separately. We don't want distractions."
"The problem there (in Perak) is minor, this is a bigger challenge," said Muhyiddin, who is also the home minister.
It was reported yesterday that Bukit Gantang Bersatu division Shaharuddin Rashid wanted the party to replace Ahmad Faizal with Larut MP Hamzah Zainuddin, who has only just joined Bersatu after defecting from Umno.
Utusan Malaysia quoted Shaharuddin as saying that the menteri besar was incapable of managing the state chapter.
According to protocol, the state chapter head should also be appointed as the menteri besar.
Meanwhile, Muhyiddin dismissed concerns raised by PKR president Anwar Ibrahim that Bersatu's expansion to Sabah would cause tension with Warisan.
"It's okay, we never fight because this is not something new. There were precedents where people like Mustapha (Mohamed) joined Bersatu. But in Warisan's case, we had discussed it with its president Shafie Apdal.
"Do not look at this as a threat as this would strengthen the coalition and the government. I don't think this will weaken (us)," he said.
According to Muhyiddin, MPs, state assemblypersons and former Umno division leaders are expected to join Bersatu.
He said Bersatu has received thousands of membership forms from Sabah and it will take a few months to have them registered.
Anwar had asked both Bersatu and Warisan to hold talks to avoid any tension and misunderstanding between them.
Surely not that Hamzah Zainudin (ex UMNO who just joined Bersatu few days ago) as the replacement MB? How desperate can you be?
Perak MB the weakest link in PH chain. Maszlee the weakest link in the fed
