Former home minister Ahmad Zahid Hamidi has denied having a hand in the disappearance of pastor Raymond Koh and activist Amri Che Mat.
Speaking to reporters at the Parliament lobby this afternoon, the Umno leader denied issuing such an order to the police.
He said there was no such order from the ministry's chief secretary Alwi Ibrahim either.
“I hope investigations will be carried out in a professional manner,” he added.
Zahid was commenting on the findings of the Human Rights Commission (Suhakam) inquiry which blamed the police's Special Branch for the pair's disappearances. The police fall under the purview of the Home Ministry.
Amri vanished in 2016, whereas Koh was abducted in 2017.
'Respect the report'
Zahid also said he has not seen Suhakam's report on the matter.
“However, if it is found that a third party was involved (in the pair's disappearance), then we must respect the report.
“On the same note, we must respect the institution of the police and in this matter, any investigation which is carried out must be based on a professional approach.
“Furthermore, this happened a long time ago, so we must know how (the investigations) are to be done,” he added.
Suhakam recommended the establishment of an independent taskforce to investigate the disappearances of Koh and Amri.
Koh, 62, was abducted by a group of men along Jalan SS4B/10 in Petaling Jaya while on his way to a friend's house.
CCTV footage, believed to be of the incident, showed at least 15 men and three black SUVs involved in Koh's abduction.
As for Amri, a Perlis-based activist, his wife Norhayati Mohd Ariffin testified that a Special Branch officer from Perlis, Shamzaini Mohd Daud, told her on the night of May 12, 2018 that it was the division that carried out the abduction.
