PARLIAMENT | The Felda headquarters in Kuala Lumpur is "jammed" with 100 new cars purchased by its management, Anwar Ibrahim (Harapan-Port Dickson) claimed today.

Anwar said this while expressing concerns over the government's decision to inject RM6.23 billion to bail out the agency.

He also urged Putrajaya to provide details of how the allocation will be spent.

"In such a situation where Felda is bleeding, I was made to understand 100 cars were bought by Felda," he said when debating the Felda White Paper in the Dewan Rakyat.

"Felda's headquarters is jammed with these new cars. Perhaps these (cars) were old orders, but this old behaviour of the management must be corrected.

"While the people and the settlers were facing hardships, these cars were purchased, supposedly to meet urgent needs."

Anwar said Felda's operation costs had jumped from RM400,000 to RM1.4 billion under ex-chairperson Mohd Isa Samad, and that the figure has been maintained until now.

He also asked Dr Mahathir Mohamad to pay a visit to Felda Global Ventures Holding Bhd (FGV), saying that its president's office is four times bigger than the prime minister's.

"(They spent so much) without taking into consideration the cost," he said.

Felda and its settlers should not be burdened by the imprudent spending of the management, he added.
