Mechanic jailed 4 years for Klang marathon runner's death

A mechanic was sentenced to four years in prison after being found guilty of causing the death of a Klang City International Marathon participant in 2017 by reckless driving.

Teoh Thiam Lim, 30, was also fined RM7,000 in default seven months imprisonment for knocking down Evelyn Ang, 45, with his Proton Iswara at Batu 2, Jalan Kapar in Klang around 4.30am on Dec 10, 2017.

He was also disqualified from holding a driving licence for three years and would have the conviction recorded on the driving licence.

Magistrate Roslizi Sulaiman in finding Teoh guilty said the defence had failed to raise any reasonable doubt in the prosecution's case.

Ang held on to life for about three months before succumbing to her injuries at Sungai Buloh Hospital on March 1, 2018.

Teoh settled the fine.

Earlier, his counsel Ravi Nekoo applied for a stay pending an appeal but the magistrate rejected it, saying there was no special circumstance to warrant it.

Ermadieyani Ismadi was the prosecuting officer.
