Production of treated water at the Sungai Langat water treatment plant has been affected following heavy rain upstream, Air Selangor Sdn Bhd said.

Its customer relationship and communication chief Abdul Raof Ahmad said in a statement late yesterday that a large volume of accumulated rubbish at the intake had caused the mechanical filtration equipment (bandscreen) to clog up and trip.

"Rubbish clearing works at the intake is currently ongoing. The incident is expected to affect water supply in several areas in Hulu Langat, Kuala Lumpur and Petaling region by stages.

"We are working to resolve the issue and minimise the impact of supply interruption to affected customers," Abdul Raof said.
