July 30 a holiday in conjunction with Agong's coronation

The government has declared July 30 as an additional public holiday in conjunction with the coronation of Al-Sultan Abdullah Ri'ayatuddin Al-Mustafa Billah Shah (photo, above) as the 16th Yang di-Pertuan Agong.

Chief Secretary to the Government Ismail Bakar said in a statement today the declaration of the additional public holiday was made based on Section 8 of the Public Holidays Act 1951 (Act 369) for Peninsular Malaysia and the Federal Territory of Labuan.

“For Sabah and Sarawak, action will be taken by the respective state governments according to their own state constitutions,” Ismail said.
