The police have arrested 381 individuals for drug offences in several raids throughout the state today in an operation dubbed ‘Ops Icebreaker’, aimed to root out drug addiction and trafficking.

Johor police chief Mohd Kamaruddin Md Din said all the detainees, aged 25 to 50 years, were nabbed for various drug-related offences including supplying, drug possession and having tested positive for drugs.

Of the total, 12 of them were arrested under the Dangerous Drugs Act (Special Preventive Measures) 1985 in an operation that began at midnight yesterday, he said in a statement today.

Kamaruddin said 380 personnel from various enforcement agencies were involved in the operation, which was launched simultaneously nationwide by Bukit Aman Narcotics Criminal Investigation Department (NCID).

He added the focus of the operation was on drug dealers and hardcore drug addicts in the areas where the drug dens were located.

Among the drugs seized were heroin (181.62g), syabu (28.45g), 1.7kg of kratom leaves and one litre of kratom water, he said, adding 369 individuals will be investigated under Dangerous Drugs Act.

Kamaruddin also urged the public to play their part in the war against drugs by supplying police with information on any drug-related activities at NCID hotline at 012-2087222.
