PKR president Anwar Ibrahim praised his wife Wan Azizah Wan Ismail, who is also the deputy prime minister, for promoting Malaysian-made products to foreign dignitaries instead of offering them luxury goods.

"Recently we had Arab guests over at my house and Azizah gifted them stingless bee honey and local-made chocolate.

"She spoke about the quality and health benefits as it is low in sugar. He (the guest) said it was very good," Anwar told a forum in Seri Kembangan this afternoon.

In another example, he said Wan Azizah convinced a Qatari minister about the quality of local honey, prompting the minister to purchase 100 bottles.

"That's Azizah, my boss. As deputy prime minister, she ceased the practice of giving expensive gifts, it's not a problem," he added.

The forum was part of the Halal Fiesta Malaysia organised by the Islamic Development Department Malaysia.
