Johor Menteri Besar Sahruddin Jamal today reminded the public to keep track of the Air Pollutant Index (API) readings of their respective areas.

“Know your API. Do not indulge in outdoor activities and remember to keep your face mask on if the reading for your area calls for it,” he said at the launch of a state-level Rukun Negara programme in Johor Bahru today.

Dr Sahruddin said all schools ordered to close today due to very unhealthy API readings in several parts of Johor would be opened once the API reduces to below the 200 level.

Yesterday, a directive was issued for all schools including kindergarten, higher learning institutions and colleges in Tangkak, Muar and Pontian to close today, following API levels of over 200.

Earlier, Dr Sahruddin in his speech said that the harmonious relationship between all races in the country must be preserved.

“We have to be understanding and respectful of the sensitivities of other races and must not touch on issues pertaining to each other's religion, ideology, culture and lifestyle,” he said.
