Kelantan Menteri Besar Ahmad Yakob has expressed relief and gratitude after Umno’s Kok Lanas assemblyperson Md Alwi Che Ahmad has resigned his post as state opposition leader.

He said he appreciates the cooperation of BN representatives, and PAS and BN assemblypersons could make suggestions and constructively offer their views and advice.

“We really need criticism from our friends. If there are any shortcomings, if anything is not right, it needs to be criticised.

“Let’s hope things will be better in our assembly with this arrangement,” he said in winding up the Kelantan state budget for 2020 today.

Md Alwi had announced his resignation yesterday after debating the budget at the state assembly building.

According to Bernama, the decision was made after Umno and PAS formalised their charter for cooperation on Sept 14.

“Starting today after our charter, Kelantan will no longer have an opposition leader because I resign and all of us (BN assemblypersons) now support the state government,” he said.

This leaves Bersatu’s Air Lanas assemblyperson Mustapa Mohamed as the sole opposition assemblyperson in Kelantan.
