Don’t spare reps over failed senator nomination bid - Malacca PKR leadership

The Malacca PKR leadership council has urged the central party leadership to take strict action against two assemblypersons, whose walking out led to a state government motion being defeated at the Malacca assembly.

“The Malacca PKR leadership council convened a meeting and unanimously agreed to urge the central party disciplinary board to take appropriate strict action against the two, as the council feel that they tarnished the image of Anwar Ibrahim as party president, as well as the Pakatan Harapan government.

“The meeting also agreed that their actions were inappropriate as it did not respect the decision made by PKR and Malacca government,” Shariff said in a statement dated yesterday.

It was reported on Monday that a motion to nominate state PKR chief Halim Bachik as a senator was defeated by one vote as PKR's Machap Jaya assemblyperson Ginie Lim and Rembia assemblyperson Muhammad Jailani Khamis had left the assembly prior to voting.

This was attributed by a Chinese daily to factionalism within PKR as it claimed Halim is aligned to Anwar, and Lim and Jailani to Anwar’s political rival, deputy president Azmin Ali.

Lim said she had raised her concerns over the nomination before the motion was tabled.

She apologised for the incident yesterday and said she had explained to Chief Minister Adly Zahari and Anwar their reasons for leaving the sitting early.

“We were forced to take such an action because we had our own reasons. He (Anwar) said we will discuss this when we meet," Lim said.

Jailani, meanwhile, explained that he and Lim had felt sidelined from any discussion, especially over state appointments, by the party.

He added they walked out of the assembly as they did not want to go against the motion, but left it to the assembly to decide.

He also claimed their actions were not intended to humiliate the state government, not as a move against Adly’s leadership.

Later in the evening, Anwar had a reconciliation meeting with Lim and Jailani at his office in Petaling Jaya before stating that the internal conflict has been resolved.
