Duo stripped of posts to avoid issues with ROS - PKR man

The PKR Youth permanent chairperson and deputy chairperson had to be removed from their positions to avoid problems with the Registrar of Societies (ROS).

In a statement today, PKR Youth legal bureau head Chiew Choon Man said their appointment on Nov 16 last year was void ab initio (invalid since the beginning).

He explained that to qualify for an appointed position in the wing, the candidate must be below 35 years of age as of Dec 31 during the year the appointment was made.

According to Chiew, at the material time, Muhamad Mizan Adli Mohd Noor (above, left) was 35 years and two months of age while Mohd Ramly Ahmad (above, right) was 38 years and seven months of age.

"Article 5.2 of the PKR Youth regulations referred to by (our deputy chief) Hilman Idham does not apply in this situation.

"That regulation only applies those elected to a position. They will be allowed to serve out their term despite being over 35 years of age.

"(Mizan and Ramly's) removal were necessary to correct an invalid appointment... If not, this mistake can affect the party's status with the ROS," said Chiew.

Both are not office bearers in PKR Youth but were elected by their national delegates last year to run their annual meeting the following year.

Apart from questions about their age, they were removed on Nov 28 on grounds that they obtained more votes than the number of delegates present during the meeting.

However, their removal has been widely seen as the latest manifestation of factional warfare between those loyal to PKR president Anwar Ibrahim and deputy party president Azmin Ali.
