INTERVIEW | Newly appointed Kelantan Amanah chief Muhammad Hussin is prepared to take up the challenge to prove that PAS is not the only party that champions Islam.
He said this was as the people, particularly in Kelantan, continue to see PAS as the only party that carries Islam as part of its struggle.
"In Kelantan, people see that Islam is only PAS. That is our challenge, how to portray that Amanah is also Islam," Muhammad (above) told Malaysiakini during an interview held at the state Amanah office in Kota Bharu today.
"This is why we have the rahmatan lil alamin (blessing for all mankind) policy, so that the people truly understand. It (the policy) covers all aspects of the people's lives and our challenge is to educate the people about it," said the former PAS lawmaker.
Muhammad said Amanah's concept is also unlike the rhetoric by PAS about Kelantan being an Islamic state.
After decades of PAS-rule, he noted that the party's Islamic image remained ineffective in bringing down vice-related statistics in Kelantan.
"So this shows that the people's understanding of Islam has not been effective," said Muhammad, who was appointed as state Amanah chief for the term 2019-2022 to replace Wan Abd Rahim Wan Abdullah (photo).
Muhammad added that Kelantan Amanah in its current phase will focus on providing explanations regarding various federal government policies, as well as to act as a bridge between the federal government and the people.
"We will cooperate with federal government agencies, at the moment that has not been optimised, and we will work on it for the benefit of the people.
"We will highlight the federal government's agency in Kelantan, and if we succeed, I am confident that the people will not only benefit but also be convinced of our commitment," said the former Gaal assemblyperson.
Asked to share his previous experience with PAS in Kelantan, Muhammad said little seemed to have changed over the years and the party's administration appeared stagnant.
He said the same approaches which were applied more than two decades ago are still being used today.
"After 30 years of carrying the slogan 'Membangun Bersama Islam', this should be reviewed in terms of its implementation and strategy. What is being carried out today is the same thing done since the very beginning.
"There is nothing new. In the past we heard the slogan 'Pertanian Satu Ibadah' but what is the result?" he questioned.
"By right, the quality of padi should improve, yield should increase and rakyat should earn more income. That should have been the results according to the slogan (by PAS)," he stressed.
