SABAH POLLS | Musa Aman, the incumbent N52 Sungai Sibuga assemblyperson since 1994, had reportedly wished his successor from BN good luck in the ongoing campaigns.

Borneo Post today quoted BN's Sungai Sibuga candidate Mohammad Hamsan Awang Supain (above) claiming that he received the message from the former chief minister's aide.

"Yes, he (Musa) sent his regards to me. He (Musa) contacted me through his right-hand man.

"He said I must make sure that Sungai Sibuga does not fall to Warisan. We must keep the tradition that Sungai Sibuga belongs to BN," claimed Hamsan, a retired civil servant.

All eyes were on Musa ahead of nominations on Saturday after his name was absent from the candidate lists announced by BN, Perikatan Nasional (PN) and Parti Cinta Sabah (PCS).

Musa's no show at the nomination centre for Sungai Sibuga, N51 Sungai Manila and N50 Gum Gum has since put a temporary halt to speculations on his next move after he launched the failed coup against interim Chief Minister Shafie Apdal and triggered the state polls.

On his own chances, Hamsan reportedly said he would use experiences gained during his time as Sandakan Municipal Council (MPS) deputy president to further developments in Sungai Sibuga.

"I am not strange to Libaran; all the developments (here), I was the one who looked after (planned) them.

"Musa asked me to plan, I planned, and the allocations would be passed to the MPS," said Hamsan, who was also among returning officers in charge during the last 14th general elections.

"I was the one who delivered it (allocations). So for me, in terms of strategic development planning in Libaran, especially in Sungai Sibuga, I can deliver," he said after a briefing to the BN machinery by Sabah Umno chief Bung Moktar Radin yesterday.

Hamsan will be going up against Warisan's Armani Mahiruddin, as well as three others from Sabah-based parties including Liberal Democratic Party, PCS, and Parti Perpaduan Rakyat Sabah.

Polling day for the ongoing Sabah state elections will be held on Sept 26.
