1. Sabah Perikatan Nasional chief Hajiji Mohd Noor will be sworn in as the state’s chief minister today, after Sabah BN chief Bung Moktar Radin was forced by BN assemblypersons to compromise.

2. As Gagasan Rakyat Sabah moves closer towards swearing in its chief minister-designate, Warisan Plus shows no sign of letting up and Warisan president Shafie Apdal’s residence is abuzz with activity.

3. At the federal level, Umno MPs who are disgruntled over developments in Sabah could be nudged over the edge to support opposition leader Anwar Ibrahim’s bid to become prime minister.

4. Four districts in Sabah have been placed under the targeted administrative enhanced movement control order, starting today, to contain the spread of Covid-19. Already, parts of some malls and schools in Peninsular Malaysia have been sanitised due to cases linked to travel from Sabah.

5. The number of active Covid-19 cases in Malaysia has reached above 1,000 for the first time since June 13, amid the surge in cases in Sabah. Other states reported that 11 out of 150 new cases yesterday originated from Sabah.

Foreign Minister Hishammuddin Hussein has been ordered to undergo mandatory home quarantine after being identified as a close contact of a Covid-19 patient, while the menteris besar of Perak and Terengganu volunteered to quarantine themselves too. Ahmad Zahid Hamidi’s corruption trial has been postponed as the Umno president is also in quarantine.

7. Yang di-Pertuan Agong Sultan Abdullah Sultan Ahmad Shah is undergoing follow-up treatment at the National Heart Institute (IJN) and is expected to return to Istana Negara soon.

8. The Health Ministry said delays in Covid-19 screening for travellers from Sabah at the Kuala Lumpur International Airport were not due to the lack of ministry staff, but the overwhelming number of arriving passengers.

9. The Centre for Independent Journalism has urged the government to provide access to information to all media outlets, rather than to government media agencies only, particularly on Covid-19 updates by Senior Minister for Security Ismail Sabri Yaakob.
