KINI ROUNDUP | Here are key headlines you may have missed, in brief.

1. PN and BN, which both want their own chief ministerial candidate, have left it to Sabah governor Juhar Mahiruddin (above) to decide.

2. However, the clock is ticking as any delay would allow Warisan president Shafie Apdal, who has refused to concede defeat in the Sabah election, to cut deals that could make up for his shortfall for a simple majority.

3. PBS, which is part of the Gabungan Rakyat Sabah (GRS) alliance with PN and BN, denied that it was defecting to the defeated Warisan Plus alliance to form a new state government.

4. International Trade and Industry Minister Azmin Ali described GRS' win in the Sabah polls as an endorsement of Prime Minister Muhyiddin Yassin by the people.

5. Former prime minister Dr Mahathir Mohamad is still lobbying for Shafie as the prime ministerial candidate, even though Shafie faced a setback in the Sabah election.

6. Meanwhile, PKR MPs endorsed their party president Anwar Ibrahim's plan to take over as prime minister and stressed that any MP supporting this effort must be sincere.

7. The country saw another spike in Covid-19 cases, with 150 new infections. The total active cases also increased to 950.

8. There is also concern that Sabah could lead to a new wave of Covid-19 cases across the country. At least 15 of the new cases were traced to the state.
