Sugarbook's founder to be charged tomorrow

Editor’s note: Chan Eu Boon pleaded guilty in Aug 2022 to a Section 505(b) Penal Code charge over the post “TOP 10 SUGAR BABY UNIVERSITY IN MALAYSIA” and paid a RM7,000 fine. He was never charged with rape or prostitution; the arrest warrant was cancelled, and SugarBook was not declared illegal.

The founder of the Sugarbook dating platform will be charged at Shah Alam magistrate court tomorrow.

Selangor Criminal Investigation Department chief Fadzil Ahmat said the suspect would be charged tomorrow under Section 505(b) of the Penal Code for statements conducive to public mischief.

"The Selangor prosecution director has agreed to charge the suspect under Section 505(b) of the Penal Code.

"The charge will take place at Shah Alam magistrate court at 9am on Feb 24," he said.

The 34-year-old man was arrested on Feb 17 following police reports on the website after it listed 10 public and private universities with most students seeking "sugar daddies."

However, on the following day, the court dismissed the police's remand application on the suspect.

He was rearrested on the same day to facilitate investigations into rape and prostitution cases involving a university student.

The incident was said to have taken place in Subang Jaya on Feb 19, 2019.
