Sabah Umno will remain in a coalition state government with Perikatan Nasional (PN) and PBS, formed during the state elections last year, amid a growing split at the federal level.
Sabah Umno in a statement yesterday said as the party's youngest chapter that has been granted autonomy, all decisions by the party will be followed and adjusted according to the local context.
"The mandate given by the people of Sabah to Sabah Umno in the last 16th state elections will be respected, strengthened, and matured.
"Therefore, Sabah Umno takes the stand to remain in support of the Gabungan Rakyat Sabah government under chief minister Hajiji Mohd Noor," the statement read.
Gabungan Rakyat Sabah (GRS) comprising BN, PN, and PBS clinched 38 out of 73 seats to win the 16th Sabah state elections.
"We hope this stand will be respected by all parties for the stability, harmony, and prosperity of beloved Sabahans," said Sabah Umno.
The statement was not signed by Sabah Umno chief Bung Moktar Radin or any party official.
Bung, who is also Sabah deputy chief minister and Kinabatangan MP, was not seen among 11 MPs who stood with Umno president Ahmad Zahid Hamidi against Muhyiddin on Tuesday, or 31 BN MPs with Deputy Prime Minister Ismail Sabri Yaakob yesterday.
Among the growing list of Umno leaders resigning from their appointed positions included Sabah Umno Youth chief Abdul Aziz Julkarnain who quit as Boustead Plantation Bhd independent and non-executive director.
Zahid is currently trying to unseat Muhyiddin by showing the Yang di-Pertuan Agong that the prime minister no longer commands majority support in Parliament.
