Bangi MP tests positive for Covid-19, to undergo 10-day quarantine

Ong said his self-test kit came back positive for Covid-19 and this was later confirmed with a Reverse Transcription Polymerase Chain Reaction (RT-PCR) test.
“I tested negative last Wednesday in Parliament. Not sure who or where I encountered a close contact,” he said on Twitter.
Ong said he did not exhibit any symptoms and will undergo a 10-day home quarantine.
“Will spend the next hour or so alerting my close contacts,” he said.
Ong said people have to accept that the Covid-19 virus was now endemic, meaning it won’t be completely eliminated and will persist similar to diseases such as dengue fever.
“The testing protocols in Parliament show that we can continue to work and operate normally.
“The vaccines also mean that a large majority of Covid-19 cases among the vaccinated will have no or very little symptoms (like mine),” he said.
He added that it also showed the need to push for the vaccination among those who are vaccine-hesitant as well as undocumented migrants and teenagers.
This morning, Dewan Rakyat speaker Azhar Azizan Harun allowed MPs to take off their masks while speaking in the House.
He noted that as of that morning, tests in Parliament had not found any Covid-19 cases.
Ong did not speak in the Dewan Rakyat today.
Previously, the government put Parliament on lockdown after discovering Covid-19 cases there.
The current Dewan Rakyat meeting, which started on Sept 13, will sit for the last day tomorrow before adjourning.
It will reconvene for a second meeting from Oct 25 to Dec 16, during which Budget 2022 will also be tabled.
