Purported judgment finding Najib guilty leaked, Umno Youth wants answers

Umno Youth chief Asyraf Wajdi Dusuki has expressed shock over the leak of the purported judgment with regard to Najib Abdul Razak’s ongoing Federal Court appeal on the SRC International case.

“The question is whether the document is authentic or otherwise?” he asked in a Facebook post this afternoon.

“There must be an immediate denial from the court to prevent any negative perception which can tarnish the judiciary’s image,” he added.

Asyraf (above) said Umno Youth would lodge a police report on the document, which is being shared on social media and the messaging platform Whatsapp.

The document, dated Aug 26, was posted by controversial blogger Raja Petra Kamaruddin on his Malaysia Today blog.

According to the document, the five-member Federal Court bench headed by Chief Justice Tengku Maimun Tuan Mat, dismissed Najib’s appeal to overturn his conviction and 12-year prison sentence.

Stating the defence had failed to raise reasonable doubt, the document stated that given the evidence presented, it would be a “travesty of justice of the highest order” if the court found the appellant not guilty of the seven charges.

Malaysiakini is unable to independently confirm the authenticity of the document and has contacted both the prosecution and defence for comment.

The news portal has also contacted de facto Law Minister Wan Junaidi Tuanku Jaafar regarding the matter.

Earlier today, Najib’s counsel informed the court that an application had been filed to recuse the chief justice from hearing the appeal.

According to a copy of the affidavit in support of the recusal bid, Najib cited a Facebook post allegedly made by Tengku Maimun’s husband, Zamani Ibrahim, in the wake of the 2018 general election.

He claimed that Zamani had expressed happiness that Najib was “dethroned” in the polls.
