Lose the 'BN blue' or use PAS logo, Sanusi tells PN

Calls for PAS to use its own logo in the next general election are growing louder, with a party leader now suggesting that the Bersatu-led Perikatan Nasional coalition consider adopting PAS' moon flag to contest the polls.

PAS election chief Muhammad Sanusi Md Nor (above), who is also Kedah menteri besar, reportedly told party delegates at the PAS Youth Muktamar in Kedah yesterday that PN should change its shade of blue because PAS members and supporters are “allergic” to the colour.

This is because the colour is similar to BN’s, he said, describing it as “off-putting” to some.

“It should be revised as our supporters are allergic to a blue similar to BN’s. Or else, we stick to the PAS logo,” he said, as quoted by news portal Free Malaysia Today.

Sanusi reportedly said this in his launching speech at the PAS Youth annual general meeting.

A similar view had been expressed by a Terengganu PAS leader who represented the state PN chapter at the PN convention in Serdang, Selangor on Saturday.

Terengganu exco member Ariffin Deraman in his speech at the convention said that Terengganu PAS will not use PN’s new logo in the 15th general election but instead will stick with PAS’.

According to the leader, he believed that PAS’ moon logo is more widely accepted by voters on the east coast.

On July 22, PAS president Abdul Hadi Awang said the party agreed in principle to use the new PN logo.

However, PAS spiritual adviser Hashim Jasin has backed calls for the party to return to using its moon logo in the next general election.

This, he said, was because the moon symbol is associated with being clean and thus can give the party’s candidates a better chance at winning.
