Ismail Sabri assures GE15 'not too far away' as Zahid amps up pressure

Prime Minister Ismail Sabri Yaakob has assured that the 15th general election is “not too far away”, saying that Umno’s top five leaders will be discussing the matter soon.

“Believe me, it will be soon.

“What’s most important is that once Parliament is dissolved and the general election takes place, we must win,” he said during his opening speech at the launch of the BN Youth machinery at Titiwangsa Stadium.

This was met with roars from the crowd, with repeated chants to “bubar” (dissolve) Parliament.

Meanwhile, BN chairperson Ahmad Zahid Hamidi, who was also present at the event, stressed that the general election should be held before the year is up.

In his speech, he announced that BN would not have any issues with the prime minister as long as the national polls are held this year.

“The organisers put me next to the prime minister, they see my body language and chemistry.

“Thousands of eyes are on us now. We have no personal issue with the prime minister as long as the general election is held this year,” he said.

‘No need to discuss anymore’

It was previously reported that Ismail Sabri was under increasing internal pressure from the Umno president to dissolve Parliament.

Zahid pointed out in his speech that the signal was “loud and clear” for GE15 to be held now.

“The top five (Umno leaders) have been given the mandate. We have discussed it many times, but the date has not been decided.

“There is no need to discuss anymore, we should go through with it,” he said.

A meeting with Umno’s top five leaders was initially set for today, however, it has been postponed to Sept 30.

The meeting is expected to discuss the date for the next polls.
