Muda deputy president Amira Aisya has clarified that the party is solely aiming to bat in non-Pakatan Harapan seats in the upcoming 15th general election.

The Puteri Wangsa state assemblyperson said that this will comprise seats vied by BN, Perikatan Nasional (PN), and their respective component parties.

“When Muda announced its intention to participate as a Harapan component party last week, I also emphasised two main points.

“Firstly, the seats that Muda is targeting for GE15 are Umno-BN and PN seats (including Bersatu and PAS).

“Secondly, Muda’s main mission for GE15 is to ensure victory for the people and the opposition bloc,” she said in her statement today.

This was said in response to PKR deputy president Rafizi Ramli, who was quoted by Sinar Harian as saying that overlapping seats would be avoided through negotiations between the two parties in an effort to reach a mutual agreement.

Harapan is said to be currently negotiating among its component parties first, which will be completed by September 30.

‘Give Harapan space to discuss’

Amira noted that communications between the parties, among other things, would run better if they were in the same coalition.

“Seat negotiations, election strategy, communications between parties will, of course, be smoother if we are in the same coalition,” she said.

Amira also stressed that the party must respect the space and time for their “friends” in Harapan to hold official discussions.

“I also told the public - including party members - that we should give enough space to the leadership of the Harapan presidential council to discuss,” she said, adding that it’s not a trivial matter.

“…Most importantly, we want the people to benefit from the political relationship between these parties,” said Amira.
