Pakatan Harapan comprised “leftist” parties based on socialism and was thus incompatible with Malaysia, according to Bersatu information chief Wan Saiful Wan Jan.

Wan Saiful, a former researcher and former head of think tank Ideas, told a Lembah Pantai Bersatu briefing yesterday that such characteristics are clearly exhibited by DAP and PKR.

“Until this day, DAP’s cadres must go through DAP Socialist Youth.

“The leftist agenda brought by them is not suitable for our country founded by Tunku Abdul Rahman’s principles of freedom and justice,” said Wan Saiful.

According to Berita Bersatu, Wan Saiful described Bersatu as a “centre right” party which is focused on spurring the economy while being socially conservative.

“Our socio-political conservatism is based on religion and the culture of being easterners.

“We also take care of the people’s welfare to ensure prosperity that is shared by all ethnic groups and religions,” he said.

As for Umno, Wan Saiful accused that party of being a vehicle solely aimed at furthering personal interests and plundering the nation.

“It was articulated clearly by (Umno president) Ahmad Zahid Hamidi, who asked Umno members to ‘take what they can’.

“The mentality of the corrupt and kleptocrats is firmly rooted within Umno,” he said.

Wan Saiful was referring to Zahid’s infamous “gula” (sweets) speech at the Selangor BN convention on July 31.
