The Sepang police today confirmed receiving a report from a man about an attempted kidnapping incident involving his child.

However, the man who made the report, a father of a religious school student in Putra Perdana, Puchong, later withdrew it.

“Yes, the complainant lodged a report about an attempted kidnapping involving his child.

“However, the complainant later withdrew the report after finding out there was no truth in the child's claim,” said Sepang police chief ACP Wan Kamarul Azran Wan Yusof to Malaysiakini when contacted today.

According to Wan Kamarul, the retiree withdrew the report without coercion from any party.

Of late, news about purported child kidnapping attempts have been circulating on social media.

Kelantan police chief Muhamad Zaki Harun recently said there was no basis for such reports and urged the public to stop sharing unverified news as it could raise public unease.
