PN's promise to Kelantan: Oil royalty will flow

Perikatan Nasional (PN) has promised to pay oil royalties to Kelantan should the coalition form the next federal government.

Speaking at a rally in Kota Bharu last night, PN chairperson Muhyiddin Yassin said when he was prime minister, there had been payments of RM400 million to the state.

"We had no doubts during the PN administration. We will fulfil our promise to pay oil royalties to Kelantan," he said.

Putrajaya had cut off oil royalty payments to the Kelantan government since 1990 when PAS retook control of the state.

Since then, Putrajaya has been making regular wang ehsan (compassionate money) payments to the Federal Development Department in Kelantan, which controls the purse strings.

The RM400 million referred to by Muhyiddin was a form of wang ehsan payment for 2020 and 2021.

Meanwhile, pressure group Pertubuhan Royalti Kelantan (R) has urged PN to include oil royalty payments in their election manifesto.

According to Sinar Harian, R president Nazri Deraman said PN must show commitment to this issue which has become an election issue many times before with no resolution.

He urged PAS, a PN coalition member, to ensure that the matter was included in the manifesto.
