Perak Muda chief moves to Malacca, will contest Masjid Tanah

After a faux pas in declaring himself as Muda's candidate for Tapah, the youth party's Perak chief Mutalib Uthman has finally found a Parliament seat to contest.

Except, it's not in his state. Muda announced today that Mutalib will be moving to Malacca where he will contest Masjid Tanah.

He will face two-term incumbent Mas Ermieyati Samsuddin from Perikatan Nasional, and the local Umno Youth chief Abdul Hakim Abdul Wahab.

In a Facebook post announcing his candidacy, Muda touted Mutalib (above) as a candidate who has worked hard to raise the quality of education for students.

"This candidate also has vast organisational experience and aims to breathe new life into politics," the party said.

According to his background, the Perak native was the former CEO of Perbadanan Kota Buku, a government-linked company under the Education Ministry.

He is credited with building a digital textbook portal that gave students free access.

Mutalib is the founder of local publisher DuBook press.

Muda also listed him as a key leader in its "End the Emergency" committee and he was also active in their "Lapor Menteri" initiative which reported on ministers who violated standard operating procedures during the Covid-19 lockdown.

On Sunday, Mutalib declared himself as Muda's candidate for the Tapah seat.

However, his party quickly shot him down, clarifying that the seat belongs to PKR.

Mutalib apologised for the gaffe the following day.
