With good response, NGOs add more free buses for GE15 voters

A group of NGOs offering free bus rides for eligible voters to return to their hometowns from the Klang Valley for the 15th general election (GE15) has decided to increase the number of buses for some of the routes.

This comes after the initiative – jointly organised by KLSCAH Civil Rights Committee, Sayangi Kinrara, and SKLHA Youth – received an overwhelming response from the public over the past three days, with 571 applicants so far.

“The organiser has made the decision to increase the bus frequencies on five routes.

“As GE15 will be held next Saturday, the organiser hopes that eligible voters will seize the opportunity to return to their hometown and cast their votes by taking the free bus service,” the group said.

They said they will be providing one additional bus for both the Alor Star and Tangkak–Yong Peng–Johor Bahru–Pontian route as well as two additional buses for the Ipoh–Taiping, Kota Bharu, and Penang route.

Highest in demand now is the Ipoh–Taiping, Kota Bharu, and Penang route, they added.

It was reported previously that this group of NGOs was offering a free bus service for eligible voters for eight routes from the Klang Valley.

All free buses will be departing from Dewan Masyarakat BK2, Puchong, located near the Kinrara BK5 LRT station at 8pm on Nov 18 (Friday).

The eight routes are, from Puchong:

1. Tangkak–Yong Peng–Johor Bahru–Pontian

2. Muar–Batu Pahat

3. Kuantan

4. Penang

5. Ipoh–Taiping

6. Alor Star

7. Kota Bharu

8. Kuala Terengganu

They are also offering a return bus ride to Puchong the next day, on polling day, for participants. The buses will depart from their respective locations at 6pm.

According to the group, those who wish to participate can register through a Google Form they have provided before Nov 16, 2022.

Successful applicants will be notified by the organiser via WhatsApp from now until Nov 16 and applicants must present the WhatsApp message as proof on the day of departure.
