'Nothing unusual about PM rejecting new official car'

An aide to Ismail Sabri Yaakob revealed the former prime minister previously rejected the use of an imported armoured car as his official car.

Ruhaidini Abu Kadir, who is Ismail Sabri’s media and strategic communications director, said new Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim’s decision to reject imported vehicles for his official use is nothing unusual.

“The 10th prime minister Anwar’s decision to reject the use of newly imported official vehicles is nothing out of the ordinary.

“The ninth prime minister Ismail Sabri had also rejected using a bulletproof car provided by the government for his use.

“Throughout his premiership, Ismail Sabri preferred using an MPV that was used by the previous administration,” Ruhaidini said in a Facebook post today.

Earlier today, it was reported that Anwar will use whatever vehicle is available at his office, and rejected a Mercedes Benz S600 acquired by the Prime Minister’s Office (PMO) before his tenure began.

He said he does not want the government to incur new expenses in his name.

Meanwhile, Ruhaidini said Ismail Sabri (above) also refused to approve modifications to the prime minister’s official jet.

“Ismail Sabri refused to approve an application to modify the special jet (Perdana 1) for the prime minister’s official use.

“Ismail Sabri also continued to live in his private home rather than move to Seri Perdana, even though the prime minister’s official residence has been beautifully renovated,” he said.
