'Fighter' Shahril will not appeal or U-turn on Umno suspension

Deputy Umno Youth chief Shahril Hamdan is standing his ground and will not appeal or take a “u-turn” against the party’s move to suspend him for six years.

Shahril (above) revealed in a video uploaded on his social media accounts that he’s been asked to appeal against the party’s decision.

However, he said he does not know how to proceed as Umno did not follow the right procedures in issuing the suspension.

“If my suspension didn’t follow the right procedures, it’s impossible that an appeal can suddenly be okay,” he said in the video.

“Maybe they are hoping for us to take a U-turn and be quiet, to follow. 

“Sorry, I can’t do that.”

Shahril said he was also clueless why he was suspended, saying he had not been issued any letters or called up by Umno’s disciplinary board.

“Maybe it’s because I resigned as information chief and asked the president (Ahmad Zahid Hamidi) to take responsibility for our losses in the last general election, as well as suggested to make changes to the party, including the establishment of an R&D (research and development) department,” he claimed.

‘Difficult to swallow’

Shahril then said his suspension was a difficult pill to swallow due to his love for the party and the friends he made in Umno.

“It’s true that we want to show that we are fighters and I want to be a fighter, but the fact is that I am just an ordinary human being.

“Suddenly, I’m being suspended. All this doesn’t change the fact that this (situation) is hard for me to swallow, but this is life and this is politics.

“God willing, once Shahril Hamdan becomes a fighter, we will not ‘gostan’ (make a U-turn).”

Commenting on his next move, the former party information chief said it’s too early to make any plans.

Shahril said his suspension will not dampen his spirit and he hopes to continue contributing to the nation’s development in any way possible.

Other Umno leaders who have been suspended include Sembrong MP Hishammuddin Hussein, former Jempol MP Salim Sharif, and former Tiram assemblyperson Maulizan Bujang.

Umno presidential hopeful Khairy Jamaluddin was also sacked along with supreme council member Noh Omar, who asked to be let go after he was initially suspended for six years.
