Ramasamy urges Saifuddin to reveal Urimai’s registration status

United for Rights of Malaysian Party (Urimai) pro tem chairperson P Ramasamy has urged Home Minister Saifuddin Nasution Ismail to reveal his party’s registration status.

This, Ramasamy said, comes after the Registrar of Societies’ (ROS) silence over Urimai’s registration as a political party.

He pointed out that his team had applied to register Urimai over six months ago but ROS has yet to reply.

“I ask Saifuddin (above)… it’s either you reject our application for registration or you approve it.

“If you reject it, we will take it to court, as in Pejuang and Muda’s case.

“If ROS thinks the application is incomplete, tell us. If it’s complete, tell us why the delay,” he said in a press conference after launching the party’s Selangor and Federal office in Klang today.

He reiterated that he would take ROS and the Homes Ministry to court over the matter.

On Nov 27, 2023, Ramasamy announced the formation of Urimai after his departure from DAP.

Urimai to contest upcoming polls

In related developments, Ramasamy, who is former Penang deputy chief minister II, today said Urimai has plans to contest in upcoming by-elections and state elections.

If Urimai is not formally registered as a political party by then, he divulged that the party will field candidates to contest as independents.

“They (the independent candidates) will be backed by Urimai.

“We are thinking very seriously... at some point, we will have to contest or we will be accused of being an underground organisation.”

On the possibility of joining hands with other parties or coalitions, Ramasamy said Urimai does not have plans to do so at the moment as “it’s too early to determine”.

“Urimai is exploring relationships with political parties like PAS and Bersatu but we have to meet midway. They can’t expect us to go to them and all of them to come to us.

“It’s possible (the collaboration with Perikatan Nasional). It all depends on whether PN addresses the plight of the non-Malays.

“As long as Urimai is an independent political party in this country and not held by any political coalition,” he noted.
