Film director passes away in car accident

Film director and critic Mansor Puteh has died in a car crash that occurred at about 10am today. He was 71 years old.

Kuala Lumpur Police Traffic Investigation and Enforcement Department chief Sarifudin Mohd Salleh confirmed the matter, saying an initial investigation found that Mansor’s car crashed on Jalan Alam Damai in Kuala Lumpur.

Sarifudin said the case is being investigated under Section 41(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987, involving the offence of causing death due to reckless or dangerous driving.

“Initial investigation found that the accident occurred when the victim lost control of his vehicle and hit the road divider when driving from Taman Len Seng towards Taman Alam Damai.

“As a result of the accident, the victim suffered severe head injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene by Chancellor Tuanku Muhriz UKM Hospital (HCTM) medical personnel,” he said in a statement.

Mansor’s niece Noradillah Abdullah told Malaysiakini it was understood that her uncle was returning home from Kuala Lumpur Hospital.

“When I received the news, I didn’t know how to react because I was too sad. He (Mansor) contacted me and shared a photo of my late father on WhatsApp to commemorate the date of his brother’s death just yesterday.

“My uncle and my late father were very close. Uncle was the fourth of 10 siblings. Since my father’s passing, uncle often shared photos of them together,” she said.

Asked if Mansor was ill, she said he did not like to share about his personal life.

“But my uncle recently had leg surgery,” the Muzik-Muzik and Famili Duo producer said.

Mansor’s remains were in HCTM for post-mortem and he is expected to be buried this evening at the Durian Tunggal Muslim Cemetary in Malacca, she added.
