Bersatu reps denounce fake PN statements over Muhyiddin's remark

Two Bersatu representatives have refuted fake statements regarding Perikatan Nasional’s position on party president Muhyiddin Yassin's recent controversial remarks.

Bersatu Youth chief Wan Ahmad Fayhsal Wan Ahmad Kamal clarified that PN did not issue any statement claiming it strongly opposes actions that challenge or insult the Yang di-Pertuan Agong.

The fake statement, which carried the PN logo, falsely asserted that the coalition would not defend any leader facing legal action for such actions if found guilty.

“Fake,” Wan Fayhsal briefly told Malaysiakini.

On Aug 15, during a campaign speech in Nenggiri, Kelantan, Muhyiddin claimed he had the support of 115 MPs to form a government after the 15th general election.

However, he said it was thwarted by Yang di-Pertuan Agong at the time, Sultan Abdullah Sultan Ahmad Shah, the Pahang ruler.

The speech quickly went viral on social media, drawing widespread attention and criticism.

Another fake statement

Bersatu’s Taman Medan assemblyperson Dr Afif Bahardin also dismissed another false viral statement that supposedly showed the party asking for forgiveness.

The fabricated statement claimed that Bersatu had apologised to Sultan Abdullah, Pahang Menteri Besar Wan Rosdy Wan Ismail, and the people of Pahang.

It also allegedly warned political parties, particularly DAP, to respect the institution of the constitutional monarchy and not exploit this issue for political gain.

“The statement is false,” Afif confirmed.

The backlash from Muhyiddin's speech intensified when Pahang Crown Prince Tengku Hassanal Ibrahim Alam Shah expressed anger and distress over Muhyiddin's actions, which he felt belittled and disputed Sultan Abdullah’s duties during his term as the Agong.

He also called for the Royal Malaysia Police to take strict action against the former prime minister.

Inspector-General of Police Razarudin Husain confirmed yesterday that the police had received 29 reports from various parties concerning the issue.

Earlier today, Muhyiddin defended his speech, saying he had in no way diminished the Pahang ruler and had not intended to incite sedition.

The police have summoned the former prime minister to provide a statement tomorrow regarding his speech, which is alleged to have addressed sensitive 3R issues (race, religion, royalty).
